Games  Strategy  Windows 95/98  (retail box)
It is the end of the thirteenth century and the feudal state of
Scotland lies in the turmoil of bitter clan feuding, general ignorance,
and the machinations of a tenuous Scottish monarchy struggling to
control the chaos. Seeing the obvious vulnerabilities of the country,
Edward Longshanks, King of England seizes his chance and sends his
armies across the border with only one goal; the total subjugation of
the realm of Scotland. In this game the player is cast as the Hereditary
Chief of a major Scottish clan. Into your hands rests the existence of
not only your own clan but also possibly the fate of the entire nation.
Of course you are not alone in thirteenth century Scotland, many other
clans exist, and often seek to obtain exactly the same goals as yourself.
Opposing, hindering and even possibly helping you during the course of
creating the future of their country. Both you and your opponents begin
the game with a community where your clan lives.
This land-hold may be a town or a village but it already possesses the
basic building blocks of a thriving community; farms, workers, traders,
and warriors. Most importantly each participating clan begins the game
with figures capable of moving the course of Scottish history, heroes
if you like. It is through these leaders of men that you will interact
with the world as they act as your clan lieutenants, doing your bidding
and extending your influence onto the world.
The struggle for territory, power and even survival does not come
easily however. Your every decision will affect not only your own clan
but also everything that comes into contact with it. You will make
friends, and enemies out of the clans you meet, and you can never
discount the insidious of the English. Success will depend on how you
lead your clan in the ever-shifting environment of medieval Scotland.
Do you gain influence on a national level through trade? Do you seek
allies in all you meet and force them under your will? Do you conquer
and pillage a blazing path to glory on the battlefield?

Yet all is not strategy, your own skill will decide the outcome of your
military maneuvers, your espionage attempts and even secret missions by
your leaders as you control your troops in the three dimensional rolling
landscape that comprises the clans ancestral home. Send your men forth
in formations, outflank your enemies, and assassinate the opposition's
leaders. Or better turn their loyalty and they will serve you as their
master. Yours is the role of savior of Scotland, if you fail, Scotland
fails with you.
